Iron found in:
- red meat (also poultry and fish, but less). Liver has high iron content…
- pulses/legumes (eg lentils, pea, beans, kidney beans, chickpeas, edamame)
- nuts
- dried fruit eg raisins, dried apricots (but not great for teeth…)
- fortified breakfast cereals (so not porridge?)
- dark green vegetables (including broccoli) – but the iron is harder to absorb
- Bread is generally fortified in the UK. Wholemeal is naturally high in iron but also contains phytates that inhibit absorption…). Not sure about flatbreads/wraps etc.
Vitamin C helps absorption.
